EDDIE KONE WELCOMES EKBJJ AFFILIATE - FROM BRAZIL!

The EKBJJ Association spreads back across the water to the home of where it all began in Brazil, as Jonas de Almeiada becomes what is believed to be the first Brazilian club to affiliate to a UK based Brazilian Jiu Jitsu association.

Royler Gracie black belt Eddie Kone has just returned from Viamao, located in the south of Brazil, where he has been training with Jonas and his students, as well as observing Jonas’ teaching and interaction.

The story starts two years ago, when Jonas came to the UK to stay with Eddie, teaching BJJ and MMA classes at his London academy, as well as helping Eddie’s students prepare for MMA fights. Whilst there, Jonas learned the principles, philosophy and the art of Brazilian Jiu Jistu, within Eddie’s Association.

During the trip, Eddie promoted Jonas to purple belt and he returned to Brazil after four months and was immediately asked to travel to Colorado in the US, to help prepare WWE star Bobby Lashley for his MMA fight and stayed there for two months before returning to Brazil.  Throughout this time, Eddie and Jonas remained in daily contact and it was at this time in Jonas’s schedule that the two of them talked about the possibility of having an EKBJJ academy in Brazil.

Jonas continued training in Brazil and was awarded the rank of brown belt under the De la Riva Association in 2011 and a few months later, Jonas expressed his wishes to become part of the EKBJJ Association. The pair spoke in depth about this and what would be expected from each other and on January 5th 2012, Eddie arrived in Brazil.
The training continued three times every day and Eddie watched Jonas teach classes, which included two State champions. Eddie also promoted some existing blue belts to purple and some whites to blue.

Speaking to Eddie about having an affiliate out in Brazil, the birthplace of BJJ, Eddie replied: “It’s a pleasure and an honour to have Jonas Almeiada as my representative in Brazil and I believe that this is the first time a Brazilian club has affiliated to a UK Association.

“I am sure we will be hearing a lot about Jonas and the team in the upcoming months, so watch this space guys.  Also next year, we will be hosting a BJJ Camp in Brazil, which will be open to everybody regardless of association or team, more news of this will follow in due course.  The Academy in Brazil will be called EKBJJ Viamao RS Brazil and I look forward to many years of success in BJJ and MMA for both Jonas and his students.”
